Our Outdoor Fabric

Our outdoor furniture is made of SUNBRELLA PLUS ®, a performance material originally developed for boats. Therefore, SUNBRELLA PLUS ® is extremely water resistant thanks to the acrylic coating on the back (it is three times more water repellent than other Sunbrella outdoor materials). At the same time, SUNBRELLA PLUS ® is breathable, which prevents condensation and moisture. It has maximum resistance to mildew because the acrylic coating contains a special fungicidal mixture of salt water.

SUNBRELLA PLUS ® is also UV resistant and the light resistance is an 8 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best rating.

The material requires no maintenance other than simple cleaning. It is very easy to clean and most stains can be removed with water and mild soap. For more stubborn stains, bleach can also be used without damaging the fabric or removing the color. One of the best ways to keep fabric in good condition is regular deep cleaning and proper care. This can be achieved by brushing off dirt before it penetrates the fabric and removing stains as soon as they appear.

NOTE: When you receive your new outdoor products, slight marks may appear on the fabric surface. This is residue from the back coating of the fabric and is part of the overall appearance of the piece of furniture. However, these marks will fade and disappear with time and regular use.

General cleaning instructions

  • Brush off loose dirt.
  • Rinse the fabric thoroughly with cold to lukewarm water (never more than 38°C).
  • Mix a cleaning solution of water and mild soap (no detergent).
  • Clean with a soft brush. Allow the solution to soak into the fabric.
  • Rinse well to remove all soap residue.
  • Allow Sunbrella to air dry only. Never apply heat to Sunbrella fabrics.

Cleaning deep or stubborn stains

If stubborn stains or mildew persist, a diluted mixture of chlorine bleach and soap can be used to treat stains. Protect the area around the Sunbrella fabric when using a bleach solution - bleach can discolor non-Sunbrella fabrics. Always rinse Sunbrella thoroughly to completely remove bleach.

HAND WASH: Mix 120 ml (1/2 cup) of chlorine bleach with 60 ml (1/4 cup) of mild soap and one liter of water. Clean with a soft brush. Allow the mixture to soak into the fabric for up to 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed. Allow to air dry. Repeat if necessary.

Chemicals

For us at TRIMM Copenhagen, it is important that we can vouch for all phases and parts of our production and material selection.

Recently, there has been an increasing focus on the use of perfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals, which enable higher water repellency on textiles. Of the thousands of different PFAS chemicals, only a few are classified as harmful and regulated worldwide (PFOA, PFOS...). It is important to note that the finish treatment on our suppliers' textiles is not formulated with these regulated chemicals.

In Europe, a restriction on the use of another PFAS (PFHxA) is currently undergoing a final REACH assessment, which should be implemented by the end of 2025. Traces of this substance can be found in the coating of our supplier's textiles that we use at TRIMM Copenhagen.

PFAS will be phased out gradually

Although the textiles we use do not contain any traces of the regulated chemicals, our suppliers have decided to phase out the use of PFAS chemicals completely by the end of 2023.

This means that we at TRIMM Copenhagen will also be able to phase out the use of PFAS completely in 2024 as our raw material stock is gradually replaced.

The changes will not result in any deterioration of the textile quality, which will still have the same water-repellent and durable properties. The high UV resistance of the textiles will also remain unchanged. However, this may result in the textiles being less resistant to oil.
